2023-02-10

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced that the Shenmu-Anping coalbed methane pipeline project, the longest coal-bed methane pipeline in China, has been completed and entered trial production, which will open the natural gas transport channel between Shanxi and Shaanxi and provide new support for natural gas supply protection in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

The pipeline is under the overall planning and construction of China United Coalbed Gas Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as "China United Coalbed Gas"), which is a key construction project of China's 13th FiveYear Plan for the development and utilization of Coalbed gas (Coal mine gas). The pipeline starts from Shenmu City of Yulin in Shaanxi Province in the west and reaches Anping County of Hengshui City in Hebei Province in the east. It spans 17 counties in 7 cities in Shaanxi, Shanxi and Hebei provinces, with a total length of about 623 kilometers, including 3 stations, 1 subdelivery station, 2 pigging stations and 27 valve chambers. Shenan Pipeline has a diameter of 813mm, a design pressure of 8 mpa and a gas transmission capacity of 5 billion cubic meters per year. If a family of three needs 20 cubic meters of natural gas per month, it can meet the annual gas demand of more than 20 million households.

The Shen 'an Pipeline, under construction since July 2020, crosses the Luliang and Taihang Mountains, and successfully crosses the Yellow River, the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway and the South-to North Water Diversion Project. It has overcome the impact of the longest rainy season and extreme cold wave in history, and withstood the repeated impact of the novel coronavirus epidemic. With the effective construction period shortened by 1/7, zero safety accidents, zero epidemic infections, and zero environmental pollution were achieved, and the entire construction task was completed in only 28 months, 5 months ahead of the original plan.

Since its partial operation, the Shen 'an Pipeline has supplied more than 1.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Shanxi and Hebei. It can supply about 500 million cubic meters of natural gas to North China this winter and next spring, effectively ensuring the people's gas demand in winter in North China. After the completion of the line, it will realize the interconnection between Qinshui Basin and the eastern edge of Ordos Basin, two major unconventional gas exploration and development areas, and fully release the capacity of Jinshan area, contributing to the protection of people's gas and national energy security.
